Open Water Swim

Due to the great response to the Open Water practice on Wednesday evenings, I have scheduled them for every Wednesday thru the month of August 2009. This will be a great opportunity for the newer triathletes to get acquainted with open water swimming. We will practice all of the essentials skills to enhance swimmer’s comfort and success in the open water. We work on anxiety attacks, proper breathing, entering and exiting the water, navigation and more. This training includes open water swimming based on the individual swimmers ability from 200 yards to a half-mile. The OW training will take place at beautiful Pass-A-Grill Beach, 1 mile south of the historic Don Cesar Resort. The fee for this coached OW practice will be $10.00 per swimmer. Check-in and fee payment will begin at 5:30 PM, at the pavilion in Frank T. Hurley Park, 1501 Gulf Way, 33706. After check-in, head across the street to the boardwalk and down to the beach. We will start waterside approximately one tenth of a mile North of the boardwalk at 6:00 PM. There will be a large yellow wagon at the sight of the training swim. You may place your belongings and drinks in the wagon. I will have swim buoys in the water to assist with the navigation skills. This training will take approximately 1.5 hours. Hurley Park has metered parking until 8:00 PM.... credit card or change (the meters do not take $ bills). There are restrooms and outdoor showers for your convenience. The water temperature is estimated to be in the mid to high 80’s. There will be additional coaches to assist the newbies, who will be swimming close to shore.

I have had a request to include young triathletes. A coach will be at the OW training that is capable of working with younger swimmers. I must limit one coach to every 5 young triathletes ( ages 6 thru 12)… so it is imperative that you let me know you will be attending and the age of the young swimmer(s).
